The motto “everyone from there is the same, let’s hire more” is quite frustrating, but unfortunately very often.
I don’t want to offend anyone, but I agree that, for me also, people from places I haven’t travel to, may seem the same, even if they are strongly considering themselves different from each other.
And I suspect that’s going on in the huge companies where they hire tens of testers.
It doesn’t matter if someone is working 10x more, its just a tester from “there” and needs to be in the local market, that’s why we hired there, to save money. And we can replace that person very fast.
I cannot comprehend what is the thinking behind simple fast decision to hire “20 more” or “50 more” like they are potatoes. Isn’t it normal to consider that those are PEOPLE and when you gather together too many people they will loose their individuality and don’t care too much about productivity? Because frustration will come from actions that would be considered unfair by the employees who will try to do nice stuff in the beginning.
There is no point in doing artificial stimulation like competition, bull**** and other stuff. You will get what you are paying for that outsourcing.
If you have lazy employees, yeah, that might be a good idea to outsource. But only because you are amazed that someone from a remote location is cheap and can perform almost the same action, and before knowing that, you had the impression is only above the level of an ape, it doesn’t mean he is an expert. More then this you don’t know the downsizes of people in the remote location.
When you let a remote location building itself you will also get fake feedback because the new feedback is given from another outsourced person that has another level. He will say that is “good” compared to his level, but you will take it as good at your level.
Companies wake up too late and when they do, they realize they made a mistake and have to replace lot of people, that were outsourced, to move to another location.
Another side is that outsourced people are seen as always inferior because they don’t have the same opinion and approach as the main branch people.
“Pff…they cannot do that stuff properly” is quite repeated by the people afraid to be replaced by cheaper ones, when they themselves will not be usually able to raise above the level they are criticizing it.
Its complex…:)
